Time for a tidy
Everyone’s garden looks scruffy after winter, but resist the urge to clear away dead plant material until daytime temperatures are consistently around 10°C. This gives helpful pollinators a chance to emerge from their winter hibernation. Then it’s time to tidy up any debris, fallen leaves and rubbish that has collected over winter. Neaten up flower beds and borders by trimming the edges. It’s not too late to apply a layer of compost or manure to beds to boost fertility. There’s no need to turn the soil as the earthworms will do it for you!
Get ahead of the weeds
Spring is the perfect time to get a head start on weeding while any unwanted plants are still small and easily dealt with. Check borders, lawns and paving cracks for weeds such as dandelion, couch grass and bindweed and try to pull up as much of the root as possible. Tackle larger areas of overgrown vegetation with a brushcutter, designed to take on dense weeds, fibrous grass and areas of thick vegetation. Lots of them are important food sources for wildlife, so consider leaving a little patch of your garden wild to do your bit for nature.

Give your lawn some love
Lawns often look muddy, mossy or otherwise unappealing in late winter, so now is a good time to aerate and apply treatments to your lawn. Make sure you’re ready for mowing season with sharp rotary blades on your lawnmower. Blunt blades tear the grass, leaving your lawn looking scruffy and prone to turf diseases, bare patches and brown spots. Always use precision engineered Honda Genuine blades and mulching kits with your Honda lawnmower to give you the perfect cut and prolong the life of your mower. You’ll be able to see which blade fits your mower on our product category page. Or contact your dealer to arrange your lawnmower service, and get off to a flying start this summer.
Pruning and planting
Spring is a good time to prune many larger shrubs and fruit trees. Remove dead and damaged branches first, making sure to disinfect your tools with some rubbing alcohol so you don’t spread disease. It’s important to use high quality tools for longevity, efficiency and safety in the garden. Take a look at this blog post to find out more about how Honda tools are engineered for life. Once you’ve finish clearing old vegetation, bring your garden to life with a burst of summer colour by planting flowering plants and bulbs. Think water
Now is a great time to install new water butts and clean out old ones, ready to catch some spring rain. Harvesting rainwater not only reduces your water bill, it also helps the environment by conserving resources and reducing flooding. And did you know plants prefer rainwater to tap water anyway?
Tidy the patio
Refresh your patio or decking area for alfresco entertaining. Sweep away debris, pressure wash any moss or dirt, and treat timber elements to protect them from the elements and prolong their lifespan.

Upgrade Your Furniture
For perfect garden party ambiance, you’ll need comfortable and stylish garden furniture. Give wooden and metal garden tables and chairs a good scrub, sand back any flaky areas and apply a fresh lick of paint. New cushions and throws brighten up your space, and solar fairy lights can make any garden gathering more magical.

Prep the BBQ
No garden party would be complete without hamburgers, hot dogs and kebabs! But before you fire up the BBQ, give it a good clean to remove any residue from previous use. Check that all parts are in working order, and stock up on charcoal or gas to avoid any last-minute party panics.
